Story of the jam

The game started as a simple platformer. The test had you collect upgrade coins to get enough to level up. I did this because I had to prioritize leveling up and getting stronger, as per the note. The letter I received read...

Hi santa, i am tremorlives, a (totally not) famous game developer who is (super duper not) talented in creating videogames. I am very happy to have joined in this jam, i think it will be a good chance to level up my game dev skills. I won't ask for anything in particular, as i want you to have fun creating whatever you want and can create. If you want, you can take some inspiration here: i have really been interested recently in the concept of the progression of the player (the player starts really weak and becomes really strong with time and effort), otherwise i like everything that fits in the theme of zombies or artifical intelligence/robots. As i said, don't bother too much about my preferences, the only thing i want you to do necessarly is to have fun while doing this project . Also, don't worry about the quality of the game, even the most basic and un-hestetic game would make my heart happy, so don't worry and enjoy these holidays XD I am on Mac, so i'd prefer a Mac or browser build ( if you can't for whatever reason pass me the project files and i will compile It for you if you have unity) Marry christmas OH OH OH Love, tremorlives Love, tremorlives Love, tremorlives

This is what I went with. I followed up about genre and he replied...

i really love rpgs, but i love them because of the evolution of the player so i wouldn't adivise you to go with this genere since Is very time consuming. I also like rythm games and 2d games like undertale or hollow knight Love, tremorlives

This is how the mechanics of the game came to me. I decided it would be undertale with gravity and other things like moving, still, and fake blocks. At first the game was action/adventure. The levels were originally like the og Legend of Zelda levels... but with robots, ram sticks, and a gun. This first level is actually still in the files if you would like to see it. You would have moved with the arrow keys and shot with the shift key. I then decided that these were too much work and they were not very fun, so I decided to make the game a boss rush.

My character designs for the bots weren't actually too bad for my standards, but the enemies were awful lol. There was also plans for more levels, but due to time restraints, that did not happen.

I hope you like the game, and Merry Christmas!
